Position Overview

kVA by UL is seeking a Electric Vehicle Senior Functional Safety Engineer to become an integral part of our growing team. This employee will consult with the clients to develop verified safe high voltage and electrical propulsion products. kVA by UL assures the safety of complex systems, ranging from autonomous vehicles to multi-core microprocessors to electric vehicle power trains. kVA by UL's experts are sought after by automotive experts worldwide as they develop advanced safety-relevant systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Specific duties vary from project to project, but are likely to include:

  • Development of functional and technical safety concepts to achieve and maintain safety of xEV automotive systems per ISO 26262, ECE R100 and other high voltage safety requirements;
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis, using methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and alternate safety analysis approaches; 
  • Requirements elicitation and test case development for safety-critical assurance processes; 
  • Implementation of safety management programs in product development settings; 
  • Design, development, integration, and test support at major OEM and supplier sites;
  • Review and provide feedback on xEV powertrain and high voltage systems; 
  • Review and analysis of test data; 
  • Troubleshoot and debug automotive xEV powertrain systems while training quality and manufacturing engineers about the product;
  • Guide the development and generation of product requirements specification based on Voice of Customer (VOC) inputs; 
  • Troubleshoot digital and analog electronic circuits in electronics assemblies;
  • Lead and participate in requirements testing and cost estimation, design reviews and other team development processes.

 Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or another related field; 
  • Five years of work experience in automotive xEV powertrains and/or systems including but not limited to new product development supporting electrical and electromechanical systems; designing Power Electronic Systems consisting of inverters and DC-DC converters; designing analog and digital circuits to support Power Electronic Circuits- power supplies, intelligent High side/Low side driver circuits, I/O signal conditioning and filtering circuits.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical systems in relation to automotive xEV powertrains; 
  • Experience with high voltage batteries, high voltage components, and xEV vehicle powertrains; 
  • Experience in developing software for safety critical systems in a regulated environment;
